Gas welding (method 311) joins metal edges by melting them with an acetylene flame. A mixture of acetylene and oxygen produces a temperature of about 3,100 °C, sufficient to join most metals. It is one of the oldest and most versatile welding methods, valued for simplicity and mobility.
