MMA produces welds with good mechanical properties but lower aesthetics than TIG. Productivity is lower than MIG/MAG. However, in field conditions, repairs, and assembly — where other methods are difficult to apply — MMA is often the only practical choice. Our process engineers will help select the optimal method.

We carry out MMA welding for: the shipbuilding industry (construction and repair of high-strength steel structures), construction (assembly and repair of steel components on site), power generation (welding pipelines in power plants), and maintenance (machinery repairs in industrial plants).

MMA enables welding of carbon steels, stainless steels, alloy steels, and cast iron. The wide range of available covered electrodes allows the filler material to be matched to virtually any steel grade. The choice of coating type (basic, rutile, cellulose) depends on the base material and weld requirements.

MMA is irreplaceable in field conditions and harsh environments — it works in winds up to 8 m/s, outdoors, in confined spaces, and even underwater (with special electrodes). It does not require shielding gas cylinders, making it the most mobile arc welding method. Ideal for railway infrastructure repairs, on-site assembly, and maintenance work.

MMA (Manual Metal Arc) / SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding, method 111) is a manual arc welding process using a covered electrode. An electric arc is struck between the electrode and the base material, melting both. The electrode coating produces slag and shielding gas, protecting the weld from contamination. It is one of the oldest and most versatile welding methods.
